I didn't make it to the festival I planned to attend today. Hubs had to work and I didn't think it would be much fun walking around by myself, so I went on a ramble through the countryside instead. I looked for fences, rubbish, birds, and other critters. I found some interesting stuff, but only 2 birds.
I was driving slowly down a country road when I saw what looked like an unusual bird sitting on a wire. I zoomed in, but still couldn't tell what kind it was.
I will say I couldn't wait to get home and upload all my pictures so I could drag out my bird book and find out what he was.
Sadly, I didn't need to drag out the bird book. Upon closer inspection, it was quite obvious this was a by no means rare bird. Just another European Starling.
Guess I hadn't seen one from this angle before. I see them all the time out by the feeders, where I'm looking down on them.

i still think they're handsome birds. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful, when the light hits them just right. Awesome shots. Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I usually despise them, their summer outfits are rather sharp!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is with Brian King - he despises them too, I know they do some nasty things...but, that one sure looks pretty.
ReplyDeleteNot rare, but a stunning looking bird. I have tons of them in my yard. Your photos are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteNice pictures. They look good in the sunshine.
ReplyDeleteNice looking bird!
ReplyDeleteReally great photos of the starling!
ReplyDeleteI also think they're very handsome birds. Have a great Sunday.
ReplyDeleteReally amazing photos !
ReplyDeleteI love their iridescence! And believe me, I've often thought I had a 'new' bird also, and get the pictures off the SD card from the camera only to find out it's one I've seen before but such an angle that it looked 'different'.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up this weekend.

Good Morning, just stopping by to say thanks for linking up with my critter party. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteThe bird may not be rare but is nonetheless beautiful. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteIt's not "just another" starling to me! You have captured his rainbow reflective colors wonderfully! And the all fluffed up one, is he a baby?
ReplyDeleteMost people consider them too common, but I still love starlings. Yours is missing his stars on his breast! I've come from Anni's...so great to meet you!
ReplyDeleteI do like how the light accents the purple/green on its throat. You got some great detail on its feet, too.

He's still a pretty bird! You zoomed in pretty close to this colorful fella.
ReplyDeleteI get tired of them cause they can empty a feeder in no time, but when you really look at them, they are pretty too.
ReplyDeleteHi, Roan; So sorry for my belated comment. Great photographs of BEAUTIFUL Starling♡♡♡
ReplyDeleteSending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
