Modern and Rustic

Note to self—running low on fences. Looks like it's time for a ramble!
This is a flowering shrub of some sort that grows next to the fence in our back yard.
This is a terrible shot. Don't you love how that pole planted itself right in the middle of the picture? This is the only section that looked like it was made from limbs found laying around in the woods. Which, of course, is the most interesting part of the fence. The rest looks mostly like a normal old fence.

  1. Oh dear! I know how you feel about being low on photos. Me too. I am so anxious to take my camera on a REAL photo shoot! :)

It's frustrating when the best part of a photo op has something liking a pole right in the centre of it. :))

  4. What an interesting fence, made from brambles. Nice photo ---well, except for the pole that jumped into your shot.

I used to think that as soon as I had a digital camera and could see my shots immediately, I wouldn't get photos like that, but sometimes I'm so focused on one part of the photo, I miss that odd thing in the background that would have moved in a second or els "duh" I could have snapped from a different angle. I'm pretty good at Photoshopping things out, but sometimes it's difficult or so time consuming, it isn't worth it.

  5. I meant to add that I think that flowering shrub might be a spiraea. There are several different types ---the white might be bridal spiraea and the pink, I think is princess spiraea. There are other varieties, too. (I'm not a botanist, so I'm not absolutely certain about this.)

  6. A very nice fence Roan!
The blossoms appear to be from a spirea bush. They are all in full bloom in Illinois right now.

  14. Gosh those are pretty flowers!

Those goofy poles photobomb my pictures quite frequently! ;-) Nevertheless, that's a great-looking rustic fence. I wonder, since you say it is the only section that looks like that, perhaps those were small trees that were growing there at one time and the barbed wire was put around it to enclose the area? Making use of materials already there. Just thinkin' off the top of my head...

  15. I'm low on photos, period. I need to get out and about soon! I've seen fences like this before..it is like the land owner just says enough already and props the fence up with the nearest tree branch he can find.

  16. I didn't even really realize those old limbs were holding up a fence at first. A very interesting construction!

  17. My grandfather built his fence with limbs from the woods. Every time I see one, which isn't often, I think of him. I think these are lovely!

  18. I love that fence with the limbs making the posts! Sometimes it is so rude to find a pole or a sign in the middle of what would be the perfect picture!

  19. That is more like the leaning fence.

  20. Maybe they were trying to create a hedge row! :-)

  21. I really need to go on a ramble, too...and I just don't seem to get it done.

I love fences like that...I did not really notice the pole because the fence captured my attention so.

  22. Oh my... what character that old fence has with the crooked growth keeping it up...who cares about the pole? I have taken many shots of that same white flower cluster. They are so beautiful and delicate.

  23. It is really interesting. Looks like maybe they repaired it with limbs and such for a homemade fix? But of course it doesn't stand up well, they need to fix it with some kind of poles or wooden stakes.

  24. We need to see more of the fence in your back yard ... it looks to be very nice. That said your second fence has a lot of character to it ... you could clean that pole out with PS ... It wouldn't be easy, but it could be done. Actually, the fence controls my focus and the pole is just incidental. Fun stuff :)
