On the way to Neoga, I decided to take a side trip down a road where my family lived for a summer. We had sold the house we were living in and Dad was building another, so we needed a temporary home. My dad's sister had a rental house that was vacant, so we moved in. This was the summer between 2nd and 3rd grade.
I was a little disappointed in what I found. The road was blocked and the house appears to be vacant. The barn wasn't there back in the day. I learned to ride my bicycle on this lane. It was a fun summer. I was happy to find a fence to post, though. There are cows and horses inside the fence, but they were back between the barn and the house so I couldn't get a good shot.
This isn't really a fence, it is a grape arbor, but it looks like a fence.
On the way back home, I found this freshly painted fence down an old country road.
It was a beautiful day for a ramble. I hope next weekend is as nice so I can take another drive.

Betty, I like that second photo especially! And by the way, I'm sorry I missed Rubbish Tuesday. I had a post ready for Tuesday and then all this posting ahead of time gets confusing. Evidently it's still okay to post it on Tuesday even though others post it on Monday? (I always post at 5 AM)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a lovely peaceful place to spend a summer or two :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's always a bit sad when things aren't how you remember them but it's also good to take a trip down memory lane now and then. Lovely photos as always.
ReplyDeleteIt's usually very hard to go back to where you lived as a child. Things change so much!
ReplyDeleteYou have wonderful memories of the old home, things do change over years! I like the grape vine fence and the white picket shot! Have a happy day!

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful place to learn to ride your bike.
ReplyDeleteoh what great memories you must have there!
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice little spot to ramble about in as a child.
ReplyDeleteYou found a nice collection of fences :D)
The grape arbor fencing....reminds me of my dad's!!
ReplyDeleteA fence with grapes.... wine in the future I hope! Love the last fence!! Memories of a happy summer for you.. very nice Roan! You are in Illinois! I think it makes me smile each time I visit. We are neighbors.. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat fence pictures today! I think I spied a pot hole in the first picture. I love riding in the country just checking things out!
ReplyDeletebrings to mind the saying, 'you can never go home again.' *sigh* my childhood home was torn down years back.
ReplyDeletelovely fence shots, though! thanks, betty!
I cannot be happy going down memory lane, the actual place! Our old house, I drove by and they'd done extensive renos. It was tough!
ReplyDeleteNature all about at its best! Any time spent there looks like quite a lovely adventure.
ReplyDeleteI think that's 'memory lane' in your photo and no TLC or money is needed to keep the places of our childhood beautiful in our minds. Great post!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds. Love the grape arbor.
ReplyDeleteI returned to a childhood home years ago and it was exactly as I remembered it, except, it was tiny ... I always thought it was gigantic. Through the eyes of babes, I guess. Love your little fence and always love the country pictures.

Great fences. It's fun to go back to see where we lived, isn't it. I've done that and am surprised how my memory is different from reality - especially about size! When we were kids the places looked so much bigger than they do after we have grown up.
ReplyDeleteI love these. It looks like "Home".
ReplyDeleteA lovely place to have spent some childhood time.
ReplyDeleteGoing back and hoping to see things just as they were is often a disappointment. My old neighborhood that I loved as a child is now a ghetto and in such a state of disrepair. So sad. That path where you rode your bike looks like a peaceful place. At least we have our memories!
ReplyDeleteThat white fence is beautiful with all those trees and shrubs.
ReplyDeleteNeat pictures. It can be disappointing to revisit the past. I went back to see one of my childhood homes, which was a beautiful 1920s brick four square. The new owners had painted the bricks PINK! Blasphemy!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lovely rural area to spend a summer, gathering memories. The fence with the old vine is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI miss my childhood home No one lives there since my mother passed away!:(
ReplyDeleteI like the grape arbor - it does look like a fence. Glad I didn't have to paint the white fence. lol!
ReplyDeleteSo disappointing when our former homes no longer look as nice as we remember them. The place where I grew up is pretty sad looking now, too. My folks put a lot of hard work into the house and it makes me really sad how the current owners have let it deteriorate.

That is a beautiful criss-cross fence and I like traveling down memory lane. Going back is sometimes not what you remembered but the memories are sweet. - Karen
ReplyDeletewow, that makes me want a grape. yum! i love the white fence. ( :
ReplyDeleteSeems like it is always sad to go back to places...but even sadder, is when they burn down as in the case of the place I love more than any other on earth.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you stepped back in time....wonderful fences. This is my first link-up to Good fences and I am making my rounds!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Debby
Lovely country setting to spend a summer
ReplyDeleteHow cool to visit your childhood home even if things didn't look the same.
ReplyDeleteTis the season when the desire to ramble pulls us outdoors. Lovely memories of care-free days on that lane with your bike. Glad there was a fence so you could share it with us.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, it's good to go back in time but other times it doesn't work out so well. Either way, it's never what we remember! Great fences.
ReplyDeleteI like the grape arbor fence...reminds me of our grape arbor at home when I was a girl!
