Willy Nilly and Lilies

I don't really have much to talk about today, but I'll start typing and see what emerges.

1. Every time I start thinking about taking a trip that includes boarding a plane, one crashes. Several years ago I planned a trip to Egypt to see the pyramids. Shortly before the tickets were purchased, some Egyptian pilot decided to commit suicide—or was he actually a terrorist? We may never know. When once I easily flew for both business and vacations, now I choose to drive. Yes, I know the statistics.

2. I am not going to go on about the memorial service for my friend/boss, but will merely say that the bagpipe version of Amazing Grace played before the service was amazing.

3. Our garden is flourishing. So far we have had cucumbers, zucchini, green peppers, radishes, and okra. I think the okra blossoms are pretty. We are still waiting on that first tomato.

4. The lilies are in full bloom, too. My sister-in-law has tons of lilies in her flower bed. These are a few varieties.

5. Back in the day, I spent a lot of time taking art classes. I loved to draw and paint. I didn't have time while raising my kids, so got away from it. About as close as I get these days is photoshop or in this case a free version of Picasa. This is the really bad Heron shot I took a couple of weeks ago. It isn't any better, but since Granddaughter is now the artist in the family, maybe I can get her to make this into an actual painting. Hmm. I'll be seeing her later today. Fergus and I are on our way to daughter's house for some time with the grands. We're leaving Hubs home to hold down the fort.

You are on your way to see your grands, and we are waiting to hear from ours...supposed to meet and pick her up later.

I planted okra just for the blooms, but haven't had the first bloom.

(Just got the word that all systems are go, so now on my way to get our Lorelei.) Life is good in spite of everything else.

The lilies are gorgeous! What an abundance of riches! And your heron shot is very GOOD! It is beautiful and looks kind of like a Japanese woodcutting. The heron's form in flight, what a very cool image. It is so hard to snap birds in flight!! You have to track ahead then focus...

I didn't know okra had such beautiful blooms. I've been eating them for years! That last shot really turned out nice. Hope you enjoy your weekend!

The okra blossoms are just beautiful! I need to plant those next year. Do they smell pretty?

Beautiful flower pictures, my friend. Yikes, okra! I always felt that it really wasn't meant to be eaten. The blooms sure are pretty, though!

Hi Roan, I sure enjoyed the photos of your sil's daylilies. My late mom and I had many colorful varieties at the home we shared. Your okra blossoms are pretty. Sounds like you are having good success. We have been very dry here in GA, but we have enjoyed 2" of rain since yesterday. I love that last shot and maybe your granddaughter will paint this for you. Have fun with the grands.

Roan,
How fun to be eating out of your garden. I have a few small zucchini that I could stir-fry or grill. I have also harvested lettuce and parsley.

I have a couple of tomatoes coming and a pepper or two. Mine are slow also.

The lilies are beautiful. Thank You for sharing them.

Have fun with the Grands!

I really like the artistic heron photo! You know, you shouldn't give up art altogether. I started painting again after a 20 year hiatus, about 10 years ago, and have painted a few canvases. Not many. I'd like to take another painting class, I think. I had missed it during all those years!

I have always loved okra blossoms too! And your lilies are beautiful! Sorry your boss passed away. It's hard to lose someone you are close to. In Texas, when I worked at the Festival Institute, our office manager was a real favorite of everyone, a wonderful older man who had been there for a great many years. We all got calls one night to tell us Charles had died of a heart attack. I didn't cry until I got to the office the next day and smelled the coffee. Charles had always ground the beans and made the coffee for everyone before we arrived. Our coworker and friend (also an EMT who took the call and tried to save his life the night before) had wanted to make our day as "normal" as possible, in his memory. It was she who had made the pot of coffee.

The blooms are gorgeous! I really like the first one, in particular. Cool heron image - looks like its feet are just starting to touch the water.
