Sunflowers and Birds

The rain finally stopped, but it has been cloudy and cool the past couple of days. Today looks to be more of the same. I'm not complaining, I like the cooler temperatures.

The sunflowers out back next to our storage shed are getting tall (see largest photo), but they haven't started blooming yet. We were late getting them planted this year.

We did plant a variety in our garden and as you can see they are in full bloom.

I finally got a hummer to stop by the feeder yesterday. I changed from the mix to making my own out of sugar and water. They seem to like the homemade variety best. I took this shot through the window, which has a screen. I need to take that darn screen off!

The goldfinches were busy working on Bro O's sunflowers last evening.

On the way down to the garden we saw a red-bellied woodpecker and an indigo bunting, but they were too fast for me.

We had a visitor while working in the garden. This guy lives about a mile from Bro O's house. He stopped by for a visit. He was very friendly. Here he comes for a pet after sitting in the pond for a while.

Needless to say, I didn't hang around to get soaked...

Happy Sunday!

We are having the weather you are having and I am needing a little sun! I always stay clear of dogs shaking water.. :) The Goldfinches are just amazing with those beautifully colored feathers!

That's a long walk- he probably needed a little cool soak before coming by for a pet. I use homemade sugar water too, don't even die it..they seem to prefer it to the store bought. Pretty flowers!

I love sunflowers, and this is a wonderful and awesome variety! I would never have known there is a screen there! It is so hard to snap hummers, but you did a great job. I love the brilliant goldfinch on the dying sunflowers, what powerful images!

Beautiful sunflowers. I was disappointed that only one took when I planted about 6 sunflower seed and is already dying. I hope I have better luck next year. Cute dog. I don't blame you for not wanting to get wet my him.

The flower collage is fantastic!!! As are the finches AND the beautiful hummer. But that bloodhound [his color I've never seen before] is the show stopper today!!

Thanks for linking up this weekend at the Bird D'Pot.

I love the sunflowers! I saw my first hummingbird a couple of days ago. It was sipping nectar from my blooming rose of Sharon.

I love your photos. And the dog! Our cat did the same thing. Came in the cat door, after being out in the rain, sat on hubby's lap and shook! So funny, from my point of view!!!!

What a great dog, Roan! Love the sunflowers, too, and that sweet hummer. You know you don't have to use food coloring, right? Just a 4 to 1 mix of water and sugar, and I always boil my water for 6 minutes to get impurities out.

I love the sunflowers and the critters. We got a little bit of rain today, but it's been so dry that we need a lot more.
