Angry Birds and a Little Hodge Podge

It seems like the only birds I can get close enough to take pictuers of are these angry old red-winged blackbirds.
Mrs was hanging out showing me her pretty chin.
Mister was yelling at me.

1. What news story are you following right now?

The Oscar Pistorius trial and news about the VA. Hubs is a veteran, thus the interest. I think it is terrible the way our veterans are treated after risking their life for their country.

2. What's the last thing you wanted but didn't get?

One of those mega expensive cameras. For the price, they surely travel to the location by themselves, scope out the unusual birds, and bring home a magical shot. I'm still dreaming.

3. May 28th is National Hamburger Day...when did you last have a hamburger? Other than your own kitchen or BBQ grill, where is your favorite place to go for a hamburger? And for all you non-meat eaters out there...when you're invited to a cookout what is the one side dish you hope is on the menu?

Hubs cooked burgers on the grill on Memorial Day. My favorite place to eat a hamburger is Burger King. Not THAT Burger King, but the mom and pop store in Mattoon, IL. Our Burger King has been in business since 1954. A lawsuit was filed over the name. The 1968 court case between this restaurant and the larger Burger King is a well-known case in United States Trademark Law. The court ruled that THE Burger King could not use the name in a 20 mile radius of Our Burger King. So, the little guy won one for a change. 60 Minutes even came to town to do a story. Now they are famous.

4. How have your priorities changed over time?

My house is no longer my priority. I have no problem taking off on Saturday morning to do something I want to do rather than spend the day cleaning. I get to it when I don't have anything better to do, or when I'm expecting visitors. There was a time you could eat off my floors. Now, not so much.

5. What's a favorite memory with your grandparents?

Getting off the bus at Grandma's house every Wednesday after school. Grandma would make dinner for me, with a special dessert, and then we would retire to the living room and watch The Virginian.

6. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being fantastic!), how good are you at multitasking? Share an example.

Before adult A.D.D. set in, I was very good. Now I seem to be spinning my wheels some days.

7. How would you summarize your highs and lows for the month of May?

High—warm weather and flowers.
Low—I turned yet another year older.

8.  Insert your own random thought here
.

Sorry to end on a downer, but I have a friend who has been battling cancer for a long time. Yesterday, she was taken to the hospital. Worried.

Cleaning house is definitely not my top priority! I'm having a hard time getting motivated to clean mine!
Keeping your friend in my thoughts.

Sorry about your friend. I pray she gets good treatment and beats it. And, I too have been following the VA news…it's just so wrong to delay efficient medical care to our heroes. And then lie about it! And, then the politicians grandstand about it….while nothing changes. They need to stop talking and BETTER the system!

What fun photos.
Yes, my garden calls me, rather than housework!
The Pistorious trial is awful to watch. I cannot believe what he's done. It's just plain murder...

Nice shots of the RWBB's.

This is the first I've heard about the Hodge Podge challenge. It's interesting to read your responses, and I chuckled at your reply to #2. Glad for #3 results.

Prayers for your friend. ♥

Really great photos! I don't have any energy anymore so the house suffers, but that also means I have to really dig deep into my reserves to GO anywhere and DO anything! It's hard. I wish I didn't have chronic fatigue, but then it could be a LOT worse. I have a lot to be thankful for.

My grandmother was the center of my universe when I was a child. I loved just being in her orbit. She was kind and sweet and gentle and she never complained. I have loads of great memories of her.

Your blackbird photos are fabulous! I love the way you caught her tail fanned out, too. And he is just screaming! Maybe they are protecting eggs. What a wonderful memory of you and your grandma. I sometimes think that the main reason that many of us survived is our grandmothers. When did your A.D.D. kick in? I believe my mother had it. Are you taking medicine? I cannot do any two things at once. especially I can't cook two things at once.

It looks like he's yelling at you. :)

Sorry to hear about your friend, I'm sending prayers.

The Redwing males have a shriek for everyone this time of year, they announce the spring time.

I hope your friend will be okay. :(

#4!!! Oh, I can relate to that. Probably the only time my house gets a thorough cleaning is when company comes over. The rest of the time I just keep it neat, and do the dishes, of course.

Nothing wrong with photographing the blackbirds! I hope your friend recovers enough to leave the hospital.

Great shots! Hope your friend feels better soon.

They aren't really angry, they are merely very protective of their territory, especially if they are nesting. I think I would make a fuss if a big old person threatened my home ... true?

Great pictures ... you capture some depth and the your colors are so distinct ... I think your camera is working better than mine ... maybe because of who is holding it :)

OMG; sorry to hear about your friend. With my age, experiencing these things, I mean friend's illness.

Your red-winged blackbirds look GORGEOUS even though guarding their babies or something♡♡♡

Sending you Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*

Sorry about your friend...seems like no family goes untouched by it these days.

Loved the Burger King story...they should have had to change their name! Or pay your Burger King a percentage.

This is another meme I wish I could remember and also have the time to join.
