Rubbish Tuesday #9

Our local town had their fireworks display Saturday night. Daughter and family always come down and watch with us. I was on my way to the nearest Dollar Store to look for a festive tablecloth for outside when I saw a likely candidate for Rubbish Tuesday.
I saw this wheel leaning up against a tree at the edge of a lawn. The building in the background is an old log cabin that was once an antique store. Sadly, it is no longer in business.
I didn't find a tablecloth, so took a drive out past the covered bridge in hopes of a colorful bird landing in front of my camera lens. No luck there, but I did see this old grain wagon rusting away at the edge of a field. I remember playing in the soybeans in a wagon just like this one, only it was still orange.
Up  a hill from the wagon, I spied this old barn. It wasn't a productive errand, but it was a productive drive home.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will join in the fun.

My idea was to have a place to post 'old things'.  Anything old and/or deteriorating such as old houses, barns, outbuildings, old cars, rusty things, antiques, interesting junk, or it can be something in pristine condition, but just old.

Rubbish Tuesday #8

It's time for Rubbish Tuesday again. I can't believe this is number 8 already. I'm having fun, hope you are enjoying the old stuff, too.
This is an old barn that caught my eye while on a ramble. I liked the way the side looks like it has stripes. I don't know why, but it has strips of wood nailed to the side. While looking at this shot on the computer, I saw a flag on the front side of the barn.
This is a crop of the old barn when I saw the flag that led to the winning entry in the camera club contest. If you missed my brag post, click HERE. I liked TexWisGirl's comment on that post. She commented that the flag is a mixture of a Texas and American flag. I agree.
Most people around here are avid Cardinals fans. Me? I'm a die-hard Texas Ranger fan, but root for the Cubbies up here. So what if they never win? On the same road I saw this storage shed. That's a great old bike, gate, and hand cultivator leaning up against the side. I didn't get a very good angle. There was a wedding going on in the back yard of the house, so sneakily stopped where the guests couldn't see me. I'm a bit timid about taking pictures when people are looking. I guess I'm afraid they will come running out and yell at me. Are you timid when it comes to getting a good shot?
This is the side of an old church turned antique shop. I really like the 'stuff' shown here. One day I'm going to stop and go inside.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will join in the fun.

Tattered and Torn

Last night was our local Camera Club meeting. The assignment was American Flag - tattered and torn.
Neither Hubs nor I were inspired by the topic. We have done flags, patriotic, or a similar topic many times before. We decided to go to the meeting, but not bring a picture for the contest, unless we found something we liked. I mean how many angles can you take a picture of a flag and make it interesting? Not many. They all end up looking like—you got it flags.

During last week's ramble, I saw a cool looking barn. Of course I slowed and took a few shots out the car window. Later when I downloaded my pics, I saw somehting amazing. There was a metal flag hanging on the side of the barn—tattered and torn. Now I was excited. So, I jumped in the car and drove back to the barn. I walked up to the house and knocked on the door to ask permission to get a closer shot, but no one was home. So, I had to settle for a long distant shot or risk getting arrested for trespassing. Which wouldn't look good for the Criminal Court Clerk. Below is the pic I entered in the contest.
It doesn't have quite enough stars, but I would consider it an American Flag, wouldn't you?

After I found the barn I got excited and located a couple of tattered flags for Hubs. After some convincing he drove off with his camera, after work, the night of camera club. Below is the pic he entered in the contest.
Of course there wasn't a breath of wind, but he got it printed in the nick of time. I really like the way he positioned the flag with the sky for background and the trees to the side.

How did we fare you ask?

The barn flag took 1st place. The limp flag took 3rd. I'm thinking everyone else might be a little tired of flags, too.

Next month is sunrise/sunset.

Happy Friday!

Rubbish Tuesday

I found this old barn on the River Road last spring, I think. I went back to find it last weekend, but didn't see it. Not sure if I was distracted by a bird or something on the opposite side of the road or if it has been torn down. I plan to go look for it again when the leaves are out.

I like that it is nearly  hidden in the trees and saplings growing up around it.
Okay, so I messed up the linkey again. I was using TexWisGirls example from her fence meme and didn't correct the language. It should say post old stuff, not fences and gates. lol  One day I will get this thing right!

A Barn for Tuesday

I don't remember if Barn Charm was on Monday or Tuesday, but I think I posted on Tuesday. Even though the meme is no more, I'm posting a barn.

I found this one on the way to the first tiny town I visited last Saturday. There once was a house on this property, but it is gone now.
All that remains is a dilapidated barn, a silo without a roof, and a slowly deteriorating shed—a mere suggestion of what once was a flourishing farm.
Something draws me toward these dead and dying barns and old houses. I want to know their story, but they cannot speak.

Dream Cabin, Firetruck, and a Barn

During my excursion last Saturday, I found a few interesting items to shoot.
Such as this little cabin stuck back in the Shag Bark Hickory trees.
If this place were hiking distance from the road and next to a pond, this would be my dream house/cabin. It is small. No room for clutter, only necessities. Easy to clean, no toilet to scrub. No traffic noise or neighbors. Just peace and quiet. Yes, I could live here. Well, for a while. I suspect I would start looking for electricity and a computer connection before the week was out. Great idea in theory, though.
I passsed this graveyard of anything and everything that once had a motor. Wrecked cars and trucks were farther down the road, past the house. I am a minimalist at heart, so I would probably find it difficult to live surrounded by junk vehicles. I know for a fact the man who once owned this property made a good living selling parts. He was a friend of my brother's and passed away a few months ago. He once raced stock cars at our local racetrack and Bro O was on the pit crew. It made for a fun Saturday night in an area where entertainment was hard to come by. It still looks like someone is conducting business, I suspect a family member has taken over.
Before my blogger breakdown, Barn Charm was one of my favorite memes. I'm told the meme is no more. I would take over the reins myself if I had more time, but alas I fear it would be too time consuming. Is there someone out there willing to take on the task?
