As Hubs and I were trekking through the nature reserve, we happened on to this. The Bat Cave! I knocked, but Batman wasn't home.

Happy Friday!

Grackle and Geese

Thunderstorms and a high of 76 degrees. Can't complain about the temperature, but Hubs has the day off from his part time gig at Home Depot and we were hoping to actually do some things outside.
Like mow the lawn and then take a walk through the nature center looking for birds other than sparrows and grackles.
Yesterday Fergus went with me to The Rez to check on Mr. and Mrs. Goose. They were sunning themselves on the bank until we got a little too close.
Then they went for a swim out into the middle where they were safe.

Lillies, Critters, and a Happy Easter

First of all, I hope everyone is having a Happy Easter.
These lillies are from my visit to Luthy Botanical Garden.

As I  mentioned in yesterday's post, I took Fergus for a jaunt to look for photo ops. Our first stop was The Rez. I saw a long skinny neck sticking up over the bank close to the road I was driving on. I slowly stopped and picked up my camera from the console. Just as I aimed, the long neck took flight. As I suspected, it was a Great Blue Heron.
Thinking I was out of luck, I was surprised when he stopped on the other side of the water. I was able to gt this shot and a few others which were no better, but at least I was able to document his prescence.
On the west side of The Rez, I spotted Mr. and Mrs. Goose meandering over the water. This is a place where I can drive near the water to be a little closer to the far side action. I wonder if it is the same couple from last year. I was able to get some shots of their offspring then. I'll keep checking and maybe they will allow me the pleasure of photographing their children.
From The Rez, we drove up to Charleston Lake, where I found several geese foraging for food in the grass. They allowed me to get fairly close. I think these may be used to seeing people around.
This guy was looking a bit skeptical, but posed anyway.
There were American Coots swimming in the lake and I saw what I believe to be a Lesser Scaup, but it was so far out all I could get was a very blurry shot that I cropped enough to see the colors.

A Goose and Nessie?

The weatherman said it will be a beautiful day today. I hope he's right. I plan to spend the afternoon outside with Fergus. It will be a good day for a long walk. His training is seriously lacking. He thinks sit is lay down. Silly dog!

I enjoy going to The Rez early hoping to see a duck to pose for me. Yeah right! I think critters see me coming from miles away and hide. Occasionally I do get lucky. On this particular day, I saw two geese floating on the water. Did I mention it was early?
Not early for me, but obviously early for some geese. One was still sleeping with its beak tucked beneath a wing. I tried to be quiet. Shh, goose sleeping.

Linking to Camera Critters

Yesterday, Fergus and I walked to The Rez. I like to go early in the morning or later in the evening, which is a better time to find critters. Last evening, we rounded the corner to find lots of SUVs and Trucks parked near the water. This is extremely unusual. It is a rare occasion we ever actually see a person at The Rez. The only time there is ever a crowd is during the summer when lots of people gather for family reunions. So, needless to say, I was a bit curious.

Seems a couple of guys decided to try out their kayaks on the water.
It didn't take long for them to get from one end to the other, but they would turn around and start back.
At one point, they stopped and turned in the water.
I wonder what they saw. Was it Nessie? Does Toledo have its own Loch Ness Monster? Excitement! But, whatever it was, it didn't hold their attention long. Probably a fish.

Happy Sunday to you!
